Students are learning how to Read to Self. They pick a spot, get stared right away, read quietly, and read the whole time. We are also building our stamina. We can read for 14 minutes. Our goal is to be able to read for 18 minutes. Another component of Daily 5 is Read to Someone. Students practice the same reading procedures as Read to Self, except for this time they read with a partner. During Work on Writing, students write in their journals about things in their heart. They are using the procedure:
The fourth component of Daily 5, is Working with Words. Students read and build their sight words using plastic letters or other materials.
