Circle Meeting Topic
Our topic for this month will be goal setting and how to achieve those goals.
When students arrive to class in the morning, they choose a goal that they would like to work on for the day. We have been talking about not choosing goals they are already great at, but choosing something they really need to work on. Goals might include: being kind, using kind words, raising your hand, monitoring your voice, staying in your seat, being focused on your work, using the chromebook the correct way, using your strategies to solve problems, following the directions the first time, or another goal personalized to the child.
Students write in the their morning journal about ways they can make their goal by the end of the day. The goal card stays on top of their desk as a reminder for the student, myself, the principal, or any other visitors that are in the class. During closing circle meeting, students share if they made their goal or not. If they did not, they share ways they can do better tomorrow.
Please talk with your child each morning and afternoon about what goal they should choose and how they can make better choices inside and outside of the classroom.
What We're Learning
Students can also find assignments in Ed HMH for reading and math. And students can also work on Exact Path at any time.
A Note from the Principal: School Field Trip
We are excited to invite your child to our first school field trip for the year on November 17th, to the Arizona Science Center. This trip will be a walking trip and students escorted by adults will walk approximately .9 miles (under a mile) to the center and walk back. Safety is our first priority when planning such trips and especially when walking is involved. The cost is $16, if you need a scholarship, please speak with the front desk. I have passed out all field trip slips in white envelopes last week, unless you were absent.
Because of our focus on safety first, your child may have to have a parent, guardian or designated family/friend member go with them for this trip in order to attend. This decision was made for your child based on observations and/or experiences since their start here at ASU Prep Pilgrim Rest and additional 1:1 supervision is warranted that cannot be provided by the 10:1 chaperone ratio. Examples of behavior causing this concern may include excess uncontrolled energy at inappropriate times, not keeping hands to oneself, slow to listen to adults, use of outside voice inside, need for 1:1 reinforcement of behavior and learning expectations.
You or your family designee will be expected to monitor and stay with your child at all times during the trip. Thank you for helping to keep your child and all children safe while they enjoy this amazing experience!
In partnership,
Principal Alexander
