A Note from the Teacher
I can't believe that 3rd quarter is over already. We have been working very hard to get ready for testing in April.
We have learned all of 3rd grade's reading standards and will be reviewing when we return from break. We have already incorporated some reading test prep into our daily reading lessons.
In math, we just finished up learning about area, perimeter, telling time, and fractions. We are currently working on fractions on a numberline and still need to cover measurement before testing. We have already been incorporating the review of all math concepts during our daily math lessons as well.
If you would like for your child to review any concepts at home, they may work on the following apps in Clever.
Reading- Freckle, Edmentum, and Epic.
Math- Freckle, Happy Numbers, Spash Learn, and XtraMath
My class is full of students who haven't been in a classroom setting for 2 years. We are all learning how to manage our education, our friendships, behavior, and our feelings. I am concerned that most of the students have not learned to manage these concepts in the few months we have been in school. Over these last few months we have been in school, our class meetings have been about:
What is bullying?
How can we prevent bullying?
What's the difference between bullying and a mean moment?
What does it mean to be a friend?
What are qualities of a good teacher?
What are qualities of a good student?
What are not acceptable behaviors for school?
How do we use our words to express our feelings?
So even though we have had discussions on these topics, I am still seeing bad discussions and choices being made toward their classmates in and out of the classroom. Some major and others as minor as kneeing each other, slapping each other in the back of the head, or saying mean things to each other. I have requested that our Social Emotional Counselor come into the classroom and do some lessons with the students in hopes that we can turn things around. Until that time, I will continue having conversations with my students about making great choices and doing what is right. I ask that you have the same conversations at home.
Looking forward to returning from break with a fresh start for all.
