Design your own Test-Prep GameTime is flying by and AzMerit is almost here. What a great way for students to be involved in their test prepping than to create a game to help themselves and their classmates study. Students will create a game that will be made to help them review different skills they have learned throughout the year. Here you will find the purpose, directions, and some examples. There is also a list of reading and math skills for students to choose from The Brainstorm section of the project is due Thursday, March 19, 2020. This includes the brainstorm questions, game questions and answers, and the game sketch. The board game should not be made until it is approved. The game guide section, along with the game will be due March 31st, 2020. This includes the game guide ( object, materials, set up, winning, play), the answer key, the reflection, and the game Spring Break HomeworkFor our Spring Break homework, we are asking our students to work on their DreamBox Goal for the week, which is to complete 7 lesson and 60 minutes. Also, to go on Prodigy and complete battles. The Prodigy Challenge is based on the amount of questions students get correctly. I will be assigning them test prep questions for Prodigy.

Homework We love homework! We will use homework to practice skills learned in class. We will have homework every Monday through Thursday. Remember to have your students read for 15 minutes each night. Homework can be found in your child's Homework binder. Students should be writing down homework everyday for ELA and Math. It can also be completed on that same page. Unless it is a worksheet. There will be a weekly article or text. Some days students will have the four days to read, annotate, record details, and answer comprehension questions or they will have other activities to complete. There will also be math practice every day. This month we are working on multiplying and dividing 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. If your student leaves early or forgets to write down their homework, please use as homework if student was unable to write down class homework or if they are absent. Otherwise student will make up missed homework during 2nd recess. ELA Read for 20 minutes. Important MessageDear Families, I am writing to let you that I will be out of town beginning this Friday, Dec. 6th and all of next week, Dec. 9th -13th. One of my sons will be playing on the PHX All Star team in the nationals football tournament in Florida. The students and I have discussed my expectations for them while with a substitute for so long. Each day, please encourage your child to: 1. Be respectful to teachers and each other 2. Be honest 3. Stay on task (they are very talkative) 4. Listen to ALL directions 5. Do Not talk back 6. Make good choices-even when no one is watching 7.Act the same way they would (or better) if Mrs. Coleman was there. Clip Chart Rewards & Consequences -Amazing Day: prize box -Great Day: Prize box -Good Day: swag tags -Ready to Learn: They start here every day -Think About it: Warning -Teacher Choice: Time out / fill out think sheet / 5 minutes of recess gone -Parent Contact: Students call home/ No 2nd recess / conference with teacher -Referral: conference with the dean of students *students are able to move up, down, or back up through out the day These rewards and consequences have been in place since the start of the year, so students are very aware of them. As an incentive, we will be having a party the Monday I return for all students who have exhibited good behavior. That means students who end up on parent contact 3 times, will not be permitted to attend. I believe my students will make great choices as long as they know their parents and teacher are on the same page and are working together to encourage good behavior and hard work. Also, benchmark assessments for the school will be happening next week. But my class will take their ELA and Math Benchmarks on Monday, Dec16th and Tuesday, Dec. 17th, when I return. Just to make sure they are comfortable and are trying their best. Thank you November Project October Project

September Home ProjectFall BreakDonate to Our Class ProjectOur Classroom Community…Online! What a wonderful community of learners we have in our classroom this year! I’m so excited to help our students learn and grow. I have registered our classroom on DonorsChoose.org, an amazing website where individuals can contribute to public schools. Throughout the year, I will post requests for resources that will help make your child’s time at school even more engaging, dynamic, and enriching. Please spread the word about our classroom page (and contribute if you can)! https://www.donorschoose.org/we-teach/4785219 Today we are starting our September project. 2 packets have been sent home (included here). The first one has due dates and explanation of what students will be doing. The second packet will contain all the pages the students will be turning in along with their final product which is due on September 27th.
It has been an honor to teach your child during this past school year. Your child has become one of “my kids,” and I will miss them so much!
Yet, as I send your child forward to 4th grade, I feel such a sense of pride in knowing they are ready to move on! We have learned so much this year! I wish you and your child a wonderful and well-deserved summer break that will refuel and refresh him/her for the coming school year. It will be great to relax and unwind during that time. However, it is common for students to backslide somewhat during the summer time on the learning that took place during the school year. For that reason, I give you some simple tips to help prevent such a backslide. Try to maintain the learning without making it seem like school work. Keep it simple and fun. Here are some examples:
I hope these tips are beneficial to you and your child. Have a great summer! Mrs. Coleman Upcoming School Events Last Week of School FunLast Day Potluck May 24th @10:45amTo celebrate the last day of school, we will be having a potluck at 10:45am. Students will still be able to bring in or eat a school lunch as well as any other food that is brought in on that day. Click on the link below to sign up.
Thanks in advance. https://docs.google.com/document/d/180lbnvXiu-d4tVBInRfvOw2kM791PDv0SBM8ocE5tfE/edit On May 9th, students will put in practice what they have been learning this last quarter after AzMerit. They will put on their creative hats and create an item to sell on Shopping Day. On Shopping Day you will be given pretend money, to go around the shops and buy items that students have created. As you pay for the item students will be able to practice their money skills and their ability to provide change. This will also give students the opportunity to show interest in what they are creating to they will be proud of their creation. Yesterday's homework was to brainstorm about the item that they will be creating to sell during Shopping Day (there are examples in the image). This item should be something they create and not just store bought. If needed parts of their item can be store bought. One item will be due on Tuesday April 30th, for approval. For Shopping Day they will need several replicas of their item, allowing them to "sell" them during Shopping Day. The amount inventory they have to sell will be up to them, but it must be a minimum of 5.
Glow Day Pictures!Dear Families, The students have been working very hard in 3rd grade. As a way to celebrate completing Testing, we are going to celebrate with a Glow Party! What is a Glow Party? It is a fun way to reinforce the skills and standards addressed in 3rd grade. Our class will experience math, reading, and thinking skills under the glow of black light and bright neon colors. Some activities that we will be doing are Beaming Bingo, Math Bowling, Math Ring Toss, etc. To set the stage and make the day even more exciting, please have your child wear neon or white on Friday, April 19th. If you would like to come in on to help at a station or donate any neon or glow in the dark materials (glow sticks, glue, highlighters, neon paint, etc.) to make the experience more fun, please sign up by clicking the buttons below. Thank you, Mrs. Coleman Student Shark VideoHere is our version of the shark song to get students pumped about the test. |
